A nicely put and simplified way of explaining this concept
One thing I’d like to add is that meta-tags are still considered important for yahoo and MSN; although Google doesn’t pay much attention to them. Even so, its always safe to add them as long as you don’t stuff them or put irrelevant keywords just to get traffic.
