Five Things A Beginner Must Know About SEO
It doesn’t matter if you’re an SEO expert or an SEO amateur. There would always be things about SEO for you to know. Some that you might already know and bore you; others that’ll act as reminders for you and yet, others that’ll totally take you at surprise.
And since I LOVE listing down things, here is another list of five facts about SEO for you to know – facts you can’t afford NOT to know especially if you’re a learner:
It is not an instant drink
If you think you can just pour all the SEO techniques into your glass of webpage and get something ready-to-drink, you should drop all this SEO thingy and consider joining beverage industry. You see, the effects of your hard work doesn’t start showing up immediately and you need to give it some time. And if you’re optimizing a website, that’s even longer. One to two years is the minimum time you need to give.
It requires a lot of research
There are hundreds of websites giving thousands of tips on how to shoot up your ranking. However, you can’t trust them all. For example, when I was new to SEO world, I came up to a site that actually suggested having doorways pages. If I hadn’t done much research on it, I would have believed it! There’s an old saying, listen to everyone but follow your heart at the end. Applying this on the SEO perspective, your heart would be in the better position to decide what’s best if you have done your homework well.
It requires careful planning
You can’t just implement strategies without a plan. That’s the mistake I did when I was a novice and the result: a disaster. Just as in marketing, you need to have a proper marketing plan before you implement strategies; likewise, you need to have a formal SEO Plan with milestones drafted out for both your on-page and off-page optimization.
It is not a one-time thing
You can’t just do on-page optimization and wait for traffic to come. Even if it does come the first few months, that’s how long you’ll enjoy it actually. You need to feed the readers CONSISTENTLY to make them come again. And so, consistency is the keyword. That’s easy with blogs because you can add new content to it every week, for example. But what about websites that have just one content over the years? Well, there are ways to keep your website up-to-date too. Adding useful downloadables to your download page, submitting your articles to blogs with link-back to your website are a few ways.
Rules of games keep changing
In the SEO world, the biggest challenge for SEO Masters is the dynamic rules of the game. For example, Google has recently changed its ranking rules. This means if you don’t adopt them quickly, your tactics become completely out-dated. So, to stay in the business, you need to keep yourself updated. It’s not difficult really. Websites like WebProNews.com and SEONews.com are excellent ways to keep you current.
