Getting Listed On Search Engines | Part 1

Once you have your website up and running, one of the first things you’ll probably want to know is how to get your site listed in the search engines. Although it can be hard work, search engine optimization (SEO) can also be a lot of fun and reap huge rewards.

Let us figure out how to get listed and what are important things in getting listed in search engine. For that you need to know the following basic things.

Page title – [high importance]

If the page title doesn’t contain the keywords included in the search then the page won’t be ranked or listed.

Meta Page description – [high importance]

It must describe accurately what the page is about. It’s no use describing your page as sales and marketing page if you are not selling or marketing anything. Don’t try and fool the search engines with false descriptions as it won’t do you any good.

Meta Tags – [low importance]

The jury’s out on this one. Some search engines use them, some don’t, some require commas between them some don’t. Some people believe you don’t need them at all.

Keyword density – [high importance]

Different to Meta keywords, this accounts for the number of times a key word appears on a page.

Content – [medium to high importance]

Sites that are content rich and relate to the particular subject have a high search engine ranking. The search engines love this – and so will your visitors.

Manual submission – [mandatory]

Submitting your site manually will always pay dividends. In the case of Yahoo, the only way you will stand any chance of getting listed is by manual submission. Check out for the guideline to submit site in Google.

A nicely put and simplified way of explaining this concept :) One thing I’d like to add is that meta-tags are still considered important for yahoo and MSN; although Google doesn’t pay much attention to them. Even so, its always safe to add them as long as you don’t stuff them or put irrelevant keywords just to get traffic.

Yes I agree with you and for that I’ll be telling the ways to optimize the blog and website. What are the possible differences between optimizing both and keywords play very important role in either case. Meta Tags are keywords supporters! So all connected :)
